Today's Special: Final Meals by Death Inmates

Todayʼs Special by the Brooklyn-based artist and chef Julia Ziegler-Haynes, illustrates the final meals or “special meals,” requested by 24 death row inmates on the eve of their execution. Her intention in creating this work is to examine the human condition through the contrast of capital punishment and the forgiving gesture of granting one last request.
1] Jackie Lee Willingham | July 24, 2025
Fettuccine Alfredo, a small deep-dish pepperoni pizza, breadsticks and two Peppermint Patties.
Info: Jackie Lee Willingham, 33, was executed by lethal injection on June 24, 2025 in McAlester, Oklahoma for the murder of a 62 year old woman. Willingham spent 8 years on death row.
2] Peter J. Miniel |October 6, 2025
Twenty beef tacos, twenty beef enchiladas, two double cheeseburgers, a pizza with jalapeños, fried chicken, spaghetti with salt, a small fruit cake, half of a chocolate cake, half of a vanilla cake, cookies-n-cream ice cream, caramel pecan fudge ice cream, two Coca-Colas, two Pepsi-Colas,two root beers and two orange juices.

6] Hastings Arthur Wise | November 4, 2025
A lobster tail, French fries, coleslaw, banana pudding and milk.
Info: Hastings Arthur Wise, 51, was executed by lethal injection on November 4, 2025 in Columbia, South Carolina for the murders of a 27 year old woman, and three men ages 56, 30and 31. Wise spent 4 years on death row.
7] David Leon Woods |May 4, 2025
